Botulinum toxin, commonly referred to as “Botox”, relaxes targeted muscles to smooth out lines and wrinkles caused by ageing or sun exposure. The aim of anti-wrinkle injections is to reduce the specific movement causing expression lines and to achieve natural looking results. Leaving you feeling younger and more confident.
The outcome of the treatment is dependent upon the quality of skin and a course of treatments may be required for optimum results.

What is Botox?
Botulinum toxin is a naturally occurring protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum.
How do anti-wrinkle injections work?
The toxin blocks the transition of chemical messages sent from the nerve to cause the muscle to contract. Without these messages, the muscle stays in a resting state until the ‘messengers’ recover. This recovery takes approximately 8 to 12 weeks on average.
How long does it take for anti-wrinkle treatment to work?
After treatment, it is expected that you will start to see an improvement within 2 or 3 days. The full result can be judged at 2-3 weeks, following which, you may attend a review appointment to assess and adjust the initial treatment plan, if necessary.
Toxin treatment may not ‘completely freeze’ the expression, particularly if extreme effort is exerted to make an expression. Toxin is not suitable for lines present without expression (static lines).
There may only be a partial reduction in movement, as this very much depends on the amount administered and location of product placement – This is not a one size fits all treatment and needs to be tailored to suit individual requirements and expected treatment outcomes.
How long do anti-wrinkle injections last?
Toxin treatment results tend to last 3-4 months. Movement will begin recovering from around 8 weeks. Frequent treatment at intervals of less than 3 months is NOT recommended.
How is anti-wrinkle treatment carried out?
Treatment is completed using sterile equipment and only toxins purchased from reputable pharmaceutical companies, prescribed for individual clients. A tiny needle is used to carry out a series of injections, depending on the desired outcome and individual client assessment.
How long does the treatment take?
Treatment with toxin will usually take between 45 – 60 minutes. During the appointment, the client will need to have a comprehensive consultation. This includes a discussion in relation to the client’s full medical history, ensuring the client is fully informed regarding the procedure and consent obtained prior to carrying out any treatment.
What can I expect after anti-wrinkle injections?
Following treatment with toxin, it is common to experience slight reddening and possible bruising at the site of injection. Any redness usually resolves within a few hours and any bruising should be completely healed by 7 – 10 days. You will be advised to keep the target muscles active for a few hours and to avoid extremes of heat or cold, vigorous exercise, lying down or leaning over for 4-6 hours.
Aftercare advice and information is given to clients, including how to access further support in the event of any concerns.
What if I am not sure about having treatment?
The risks, benefits, side effects, contraindications, alternatives and expected outcomes of having a procedure are discussed with clients prior to treatment. Clients have the opportunity to ask questions and be reassured that there is no pressure to proceed with treatment.
What are the benefits of anti-wrinkle treatment?
The advantages of toxin treatment include reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles, restoring a youthful appearance, smoothing the skin and may also achieve a lift to the brows.
Do anti-wrinkle injections hurt?
Toxin treatment is administered via a tiny needle and most clients find this procedure virtually painless. Sometimes minor discomfort may be felt but this tends to be mild and very brief.
Who is this treatment for?
There are certain medical conditions and or medicines that may affect the decision to proceed or the treatment plan. A full medical history and assessment of your expectations is necessary in advance of any decision. All facial aesthetic treatments are unsuitable for clients under 18 years of age.
