Skin Boosters can help with a range of skin issues such as improving stretch marks, acne scarring and areas of sun damaged skin. Treatment can also help to reduce dark circles and ‘bags’ around the eyes.
Skin Boosters deliver deep skin hydration by injecting formulas of both hyaluronic acid and amino acids to stimulate the regeneration of collagen and elastin in the skin. The benefits are improvements to skin elasticity, volume and texture, making them an excellent alternative to botulinum toxin or dermal filler.
How much do Skin Boosters cost?
For optimal results, a course of treatment is advised, with 7 to 14 days between sessions depending on the product used. Most courses are between 2 and 4 sessions, based on the client’s specific requirements and will be confirmed on consultation.
Treatments are largely carried out in our clinic at Pure Indulgence, East Keswick, Wetherby, but home visits may be available upon request.
What are skin boosters?
Skin boosters are also known as dermal bio-regeneraters / bio-revitilisers and ART. There are many different brands currently in use by aesthetic practitioners. Sunekos® and Jalupro® are two of the more commonly used skin boosters and are known to be clinically effective.
How do skin boosters work?
Sunekos® is a patented formula of hyaluronic acid and amino acids used to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, enabling extra cellular matrix regeneration. The new gold standard to treat and prevent skin ageing, elastosis, and reduce expression lines and thin wrinkles.
Sunekos® can be used on any kind of dermis and in different parts of the face and body. Intradermal treatment corrects and protects the dermis from the signs of ageing. Sunekos® is a natural product that restores elasticity and volume to the skin.
Jalupro®, a sterile injectable solution, which acts as dermal bio-revitaliser, can be used for improving skin texture and minimising evidence of skin wrinkles of the face and body.
The cells of the subcutaneous connective tissue in our skin are called fibroblasts. Fibroblasts act by forming collagen and repairing fragile and worn-out skin, ensuring skin tone and elasticity. Jalupro® feeds the fibroblasts with amino acids.
Fibroblast activity reduces over time because of ageing or other reasons (eating habits, diets, smoking, intense physical activity, long exposure to the sun). Therefore, skin becomes old, loses tone, elasticity, brightness, volume, and subsequently wrinkles and furrows appear.
Fibroblasts produce collagen by using the nutritional support of amino acids (Glicine, L-Proline, L-Lysine), which are essential to compensate the reduced fibroblast activity. The higher the quantity of amino acids available to a certain area, the greater the number of cells increase and, equally, their vitality. Therefore, skin appearance is greatly improved.
How long do skin boosters take to work and how long will results last?
Following treatment with skin boosters, results can be seen immediately. More commonly, results are present from 1 to 14 days, reaching full effect at 4 weeks.
Sunekos®- depending on the area that is being treated protocols may require up to 4 treatments over a 3 to 4 week period. The procedure has no downtime, and the patient can immediately continue as normal.
Jalupro® – depending on the site being treated, it is recommended to have between 1 to 3 treatments, to achieve the desired effect. Treatment courses are spaced at 14 days apart.
Results are dependent on the condition of the client’s skin and can last for up to 6 months before having a maintenance treatment or, if required, a repeat course. There is no risk of accumulation, and a single treatment can last up to 6 months.
What are skin boosters for?
Skin boosters can be used to improve a variety of skin problems, including the appearance of mild to moderate photo-ageing, fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks, and acne scars. These aesthetic injectables can provide subtle volume to certain areas, including the décolleté, neck, hands, deep furrows, depressions and scars. It also hydrates the skin to give a smoother more even complexion.
When skin boosters are used as an adjunct with other aesthetic treatments, such as botulinum toxin injections, dermal peels, laser therapy and many more, they can enhance the results and achieve a more youthful complexion.
How are skin boosters carried out?
Treatment is completed using sterile equipment and only skin boosters purchased from reputable pharmaceutical companies. A small, thin needle is used to carry out a series of injections, depending on the desired outcome and individual client assessment. For larger areas, a single entry can be made with a needle and then a cannula (blunt needle) used to administer the product. Local anaesthetic (numbing cream) can also be applied to the area, if appropriate prior to injecting, which can reduce client discomfort.
What can I expect after skin booster treatment?
Following treatment with skin boosters, you may resume your normal activities. Temporarily, you can experience slight reddening, mild swelling and itching which usually resolves within the first 48 hrs. Although uncommon, it is possible to bruise at the site of injection, but this normally resolves completely by 7 – 10 days. Aftercare advice and information is given to clients, including how to access further support in the event of any concerns.
Do skin boosters hurt?
The majority of skin booster treatments are administered via a tiny needle and most clients find this procedure virtually painless. Sometimes minor discomfort may be felt but this tends to be mild and very brief. A topical anaesthetic cream, or ice, can be used prior to treatment to numb the skin.
How long will treatment take?
Skin booster treatments will usually take between 30 – 45 minutes.
During the appointment, the client will need to have a comprehensive consultation. This includes a discussion in relation to the client’s full medical history, ensuring the client is fully informed regarding the procedure and consent obtained prior to carrying out any treatment.
Who is this treatment for?
Skin boosters are recommended for clients who want to minimise the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles or who wish to lift and improve the volume of certain areas of the face and body. They can also be administered to help smooth out unwanted stretch marks, dark circles and bags under the eyes, sun damage, loss of tone, skin ageing and dryness, and acne scarring.
Generally, skin boosters are suitable for most people as they contain substances that naturally occur within the body. However, treatment is not suitable to anyone with the following:
- pregnant or breastfeeding
- any skin infections or irritations in the treatment area
- autoimmune diseases
- hypersensitivity to any of drug components.
